FIFA vice-president Jeffrey Webb, who was on Wednesday arrested in Zurich for alleged racketeering, conspiracy and corruption, has enjoyed a rapid rise to the upper echelons of world football since becoming president of the Cayman Islands Football Association 24 years ago.

The 50-year-old was president of local club Strikers FC when he took the top job at the CIFA and he made an immediate impact.

Within a year of taking charge, Webb had helped the organisation become a member of CONCACAF, the governing body for football in North America, Central America and the Caribbean and also world governing body FIFA.

In 1994 he was elected as a member of the Caribbean Football Union's executive committee and then added to FIFA's protocol committee.

In 2002 he became deputy chairman of the FIFA internal audit committee, taking over as chairman nine years later.

Webb was a unanimous choice to lead CONCACAF in 2012.

He became the governing body's president at 47, making him the youngest regional association leader within FIFA to reach that position.

As CONCACAF president, Webb automatically became a FIFA vice-president and an official member of its executive committee.

In March 2013, FIFA president Sepp Blatter made him chairman of the governing body's anti-discrimination task force, overseeing matters regarding discrimination in football.

Webb was one of several FIFA officials to request last year the publication of the Garcia Report into allegations of corruption surrounding the award of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to Russia and Qatar.

He is currently a member of FIFA's strategic, finance, organising World Cup and emergency committees.

Outside of football, Webb has forged a successful career as a banker with the largest bank in the Cayman Islands, Fidelity Ltd. He has managed investment banking, corporate finance and risk management.
