Howard Wilkinson warns National Football Centre, St George's Park, will not bring instant results

Former Football Association technical director Howard Wilkinson has warned not to expect immediate results from St George's Park.

Wilkinson was the man who first proposed Burton should be used as the home of English football back in 1998.

Now, 14 years on, the Football Association's new national football centre is officially opened this week.

Wilkinson is full of praise for the new £100million complex.

"It is a fantastic place, fantastic facility, in a fantastic setting with fantastic buildings. It has come together and really moves the bar higher," he told Sky Sports News HD.

Wilkinson, though, insists people must not get carried away and expect instant results like at the World Cup finals in Brazil, which are less than two years away.

"Planning and having a plan, you have to stick with this - people will look at this with relevant results in Brazil," he said.

"But this will have little effect in Brazil, you are looking at six or eight years down the line."
