Robin van Persie insists his recent fall out of favour with the Netherlands national team would never drive him to quit playing for his country and is determined to win back his place.

The Dutch striker was dropped to the bench by new coach Louis van Gaal for last month's 4-2 friendly defeat against Belgium, with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar leading the line.

Reports in Holland suggest the Manchester United frontman could reclaim his place up front in Friday night's World Cup qualifier against Turkey in Amsterdam but, either way, Van Persie says he remains dedicated to his country.

"It's a challenge. I wanted to cope with this in a positive manner," he told OnsOranje, the official fanclub of the Dutch FA.

"I have never walked away from challenges. I won't do that now and I won't later on.

"I would never resign. That was not an issue for me ever. As child it always was one of my goals (to play for Holland) and I won't give that up due to emotions."

Van Persie insists even the best players in the world, such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, have gone through similar situations.

"Everyone in his career, maybe perhaps Messi and Ronaldo, have periods where they don't play. Even good players," he said.

"The main question is: how do you cope with that? I think I can do that in a normal, positive way.

"I am convinced this can be turned around because I believe in myself, and I also think I am a worthy addition to this Oranje side."

Van Persie feels his reaction to being dropped has changed with age, adding: "If you are young, you are perhaps impatient and too emotional.

"As you become older you learn - spending one or two games on the bench is not the end of the world."
