Versatile Socceroos star vows to bounce back from thrashing

Australia wing-back Luke Wilkshire has vowed to fight back after his side's World Cup defeat to Germany. The Socceroos were thrashed 4-0 by the Germans on Sunday and now sit rock-bottom of Group D, with Ghana beating Serbia 1-0 in the other match. Tim Cahill was sent off in the first half in Durban, and it went from bad to worse for Pim Verbeek's men as they slumped to a poor defeat. However, Wilkshire, 28, insists Australia will bounce back and is determined to prove the doubters wrong. "We've definitely got the character in the team and the spirit," he said. "We know that we can do better. We know there's a possibility there and we are going to be fighting to the end." The Dynamo Moscow player believes a positive mindset is crucial to the Socceroos getting wins against both Ghana and Serbia and progressing to the last 16. "There's two games to play for, six points to get and if we do that we get through," he added. "We're professionals, we know what it's about. It's a game that we missed out on but we've got two more matches and two opportunities to try and get through the group. We need to be up for it."
