Germany will be without experienced midfielder Torsten Frings for their upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Liechtenstein and Wales.
The Werder Bremen ace collected an ankle injury in last Wednesday's 2-2 Uefa Cup clash against St Etienne.
Frings, who has won 79 caps for his country, played the full 90 minutes of Werder's midweek clash but will now spend a week on the sidelines.
The midfielder will have to miss at least a week of practice, the German federation confirmed.
Germany head coach Joachim Low will decide after the weekend's Bundesliga matches whether to call up a replacement.
