New Argentina captain Javier Mascherano has described leading his country to victory over Scotland in their first match under Diego Maradona as an 'amazing' experience.
Mascherano was instrumental as Argentina got Maradona's reign off to the best possible start with a 1-0 win at Hampden Park.
Maradona has given Liverpool ace Mascherano the responsibility of captaining the side - taking over from Javier Zanetti - and the midfield dynamo enjoyed the experience.
Surprise"I couldn't believe it was true," Mascherano said of Maradona's offer.
"I'm very happy with my first game. It was a new experience and I'm really happy with the win.
"It was an amazing experience. I'm not just thinking about being captain, I'm thinking about the team."
Mascherano was happy to get back to winning ways after last month's World Cup qualifying defeat to Chile, but admits there is still room for improvement.
"We came back with a win," added Mascherano. "We need to improve but it's good to start the new era.
"We will try to continue to improve and see what happens."
