Defender not considering retirement

Lilian Thuram has not ruled out representing France at the 2010 World Cup. The 35-year-old landed his 136th cap against Ukraine on Wednesday night, and he insists his desire to represent his country still remains. With France's spot in next summer's Euro 2008 finals secured, the defender is already eyeing his place in the squad for the 2010 World Cup. However, Thuram admits that his current lack of first-team action for Barcelona may hinder his involvement for Raymond Domenech's side.

Complex

"I have big desire to play as long as possible. But I play rarely at Barcelona and it will be difficult to remain at a high level," he told L'Equipe. "However, if I go a long time without playing [for Barcelona] before a Les Bleus match, it will become more complex. "The end of my career? It will be due to a lack of motivation or physical trouble. The enjoyment is still there and I am still able to make the efforts to remain outstanding. "There is no reason for me to stop. Logically Euro 2008 should be my last big competition. But you never know. If I can find unexpected resources. For 2010, count on me! We will see if my legs can keep up."
Contract talks
When quizzed about his current contract - which expires next summer - Thuram explained that he has yet to hold talks with Barca, while ruling out a move away from Camp Nou in the January transfer window. "No, I have not spoken to them. I take things as they come. Being out of contract at 36-years-old [next January] is quite understandable," he added. "There is no possibility for me to leave Barcelona in January."
