Leroy Lita has called on England fans to leave former Under 21 team-mate David Bentley alone.
Bentley was booed by England fans during his debut for the senior side in Saturday's 3-0 win over Israel.
The Blackburn midfielder was booed on his introduction and then on every occasion he touched the ball, as England fans expressed their displeasure at the 22-year-old's decision to reject the chance to play in last summer's European Championship.
Reading striker Lita played alongside Bentley for England's Under 21s and he insists no one holds any animosity against the former Arsenal youngster.
"To be honest I did not take much notice of it [the booing]," Lita told Sky Sports News.
"David is a good player and he has been playing really well for Blackburn and he deserves to be in the squad."
When asked if anyone from the Under 21 squad held a grudge against Bentley, Lita said: "Not at all, we got on with it, David got on with it and he made his decision and you have to respect it.
"Everyone should just forget about it now and move on and let him get on with his career."
