Olympiakos have appointed former Porto head coach Vitor Pereira as their new manager.

The Greek side dismissed Pereira's predecessor Michel on Tuesday and moved swiftly to bring in the 46-year-old Portuguese.

An announcement on the Olympiakos website stated: "Olympiakos FC announce the beginning of their collaboration with Portuguese manager Vitor Pereira."

The confirmation came on the same evening that Olympiakos claimed a sixth successive win, coming out on top 2-0 in the Greek Cup clash against Fostiras.

Former Spain and Real Madrid midfielder Michel, who took charge in 2013 and led the club to back-to-back Superleague titles as well as winning the cup in his first season, departed with Olympiakos second in the Super League standings, a point behind leaders PAOK, and still in European competition.

Olympiakos had started the season in the Champions League but narrowly failed to get out of Group A, finishing one point behind second-placed Juventus, and they will face Dnipro in the last 32 of the Europa League.

Pereira won back-to-back league titles in Portugal with Porto during a two-year stint at the club, before moving on in summer 2013 to join Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia.
