Transfer news: Corinthians defend Alexandre Pato signing

Alexandre Pato: Corinthians have defended their purchase of the striker

Corinthians director of football Roberto de Andrade says he has no regrets over the signing of Brazil striker Alexandre Pato.

The 24-year-old returned to Brazilian football in January following a reported £12million move from AC Milan, the club where he had spent six years since signing from Internacional as a teenager.

Despite scoring with his first touch on his Corinthians debut, a lack of goals has resulted in Pato coming in for criticism in his first year at the club, but de Andrade was quick to defend the forward.

And he also moved to play down suggestions that Pato could be set for a swift move away from the club.

"When we bought Pato, it was because it was an opportunity, he is a great player," he told the Brazilian media.

"He is a kid - still very young - we don't regret it. He will make the fans very happy.

"We can negotiate about him, like any player. But in order to have a negotiation, there must be clubs interested in signing him and Pato so far has not asked to leave."
