Frenchman passes medical with Argentine giants

David Trezeguet will sign a contract with River Plate this week after passing a medical, the Argentine club have announced. The Rouen-born France international, who has been a River fan since his boyhood in Buenos Aires, will be officially unveiled before the weekend as a free agent. Trezeguet's signing was set to be concluded on Monday night, but the 34-year-old had to travel back to Dubai to conclude some 'issues' with former club Baniyas. A statement on River's official website read: "Trezeguet is already a new River Plate reinforcement, that's clear. He passed the medical revision and will sign this week." Former Juventus star Trezeguet, who helped France win the World Cup in 1998 and the European Championship in 2000, said last week it was a dream for him to play for River. He is expected to make his debut for River, record 33-time Argentine first division champions, in the Nacional B (second tier) in February following the summer break.
