Reports of summer switch are wide of the mark

Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso has not been placed on the transfer list, his agent has claimed. The Portugal international was strongly linked with a move to the Premier League last summer but a transfer failed to materialise and he stayed at the Estadio Jose Alvalade. After falling out with coach Paulo Bento early this season, speculation concerning Veloso's future intensified but the 23-year-old has recently returned to first-team duties after making peace with the Sporting boss. Reports in the Portuguese media on Friday claim that Sporting are willing to sell Veloso for a fee in the region of 7 million euros (£6.2m) to raise funds for their summer targets. However, Veloso's agent has moved to deny such reports, insisting that his client has not been transfer-listed. "That is not true, Sporting do not work that way, and the club will soon have presidential elections and no-one knows who will win," Paulo Barbosa told skysports.com. "The player has a contract with the club, what could happen is that if interesting offers for both the club and the player are made, then they will be studied." Quizzed on whether he had recently been contacted by clubs interested in Veloso, Barbosa added: "I will not comment on that."
