Redknapp keen on City skipper

Harry Redknapp remains hopeful of bringing Manchester City defender Richard Dunne to Fratton Park. The Republic of Ireland international is widely expected to depart Eastlands over the summer, with Pompey, Newcastle and Tottenham among those chasing his signature. Redknapp is keen to strengthen his squad ahead of a Uefa Cup campaign next season and hopes that the lure of European football will be enough to tempt Dunne into a move to the South Coast.

Compete

"I like Richard Dunne," he said. "I think he's a top player but I think there's a couple of clubs in for him at the moment, but I think we've got as good a chance as anyone now. "We've got in the UEFA Cup for next year and we've got some good players so hopefully we can start to compete with the Tottenhams and the Villas and teams like that."
Contact
Despite admitting his interest in the uncompromising centre-half, Redknapp was quick to play down rumours that Liverpool striker Peter Crouch is set for a return to Fratton Park. "I haven't spoken to Peter," he revealed. "I haven't had any conversations with anyone at Liverpool so there's definitely been no contact." The former West Ham boss is understood to be unwilling to shell out £15million for the England international, but admitted that a figure around the £10million mark may tempt him into a move. "That's getting more interesting," he added.
Attitude
Redknapp is understandably keen to bring a proven goal scorer to the club to take some of the pressure off Jermain Defoe, and despite seeing the Czech Republic international fail to find the target during his recent loan spell the Pompey boss admits that Milan Baros remains an option. "I haven't spoken to Milan yet about his future," he told Sky Sports News. "He came here on loan and he shot away to meet up with the Czech national squad for the European Championship, so I haven't had a chance. I want to speak to Milan. He came in did great for us, played his part, unfortunate not to score but worked hard for us and showed a great attitude. "I hope he has a great European Championship and I'll have a chat to him after that."
