Switzerland ace Tranquillo Barnetta has returned to training ahead of the start of Euro 2008.

Fitness boost for Swiss playmaker

Switzerland ace Tranquillo Barnetta is expected to win his race against time to be fit for the start of Euro 2008 after returning to training. Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Barnetta is one of co-hosts Switzerland's star attractions after being short-listed for the Best Young Player at the 2006 World Cup. However, it was feared the 23-year-old would miss this summer's finals after tweaking ankle ligaments on 20th May. Barnetta, though, has returned to training after two weeks on the sidelines and team doctors expect him to be ready for action when Switzerland kick-off the finals against Czech Republic on Saturday. Manager Koebi Kuhn has also returned to Switzerland's training camp near Zurich after visiting his wife, who had been hospitalised following an epileptic fit. After facing Czech Republic, Switzerland go on to meet Turkey and Portugal in Group A.
