Basel striker had enough of fans' jeers

Switzerland ace Marco Streller has revealed he is retiring from international football following the 2008 European Championship. The Basel striker has decided to stop playing for his country after being booed off in Friday's 3-0 win over Liechtenstein. Despite being just 26-year-old, Streller now insists this summer's Championship will be the last time he features for his country. "I like playing for my country, but at some point it is enough. I've heard that (booing) long enough," he stressed.

Retiring

"I'm definitely retiring after the European Championship." Switzerland boss Kobi Kuhn is unhappy at Streller's treatment and hopes the striker does not go through with his threat to quit. "It is not right that Marco is being jeered," Kuhn said. "Here he is a player for the national team, and not for Basel. "I don't see it yet as a decision, rather as having thought out loud."
