Portugal have been dealt a cruel blow ahead of the European Championship with the news Jorge Andrade is almost certain to be an absentee, according to reports.
The Juventus central defender has undergone surgery on his left knee and early reports are suggesting he will not be able to compete in Switzerland and Austria.
Andrade went under the surgeon's knife on Thursday, but as yet little indication has been given over how long he will be sidelined for.
The operation was performed by a Portuguese medical team headed by Antonio Martins and attended by the Serie A club's doctor.
This latest injury is particularly cruel given Andrade also missed the 2006 World Cup in Germany after knee surgery.
Andrade joined Serie A giants Juventus from Deportivo Coruna this season.
