Israel goalkeeper Dudu Awat says his side will do their utmost to beat Russia in the Euro 2008 qualifiers.

Awat says side will try to overcome Russia

Israel goalkeeper Dudu Awat has bolstered England's hopes of Euro 2008 qualification by saying they will try their best to defeat Russia. Awat hopes that his Israel side can overcome Russia on Saturday to hand England a lifeline for qualification. An Israel win will leave England's chances of making next summer's finals in their own hands when they face Croatia on 21st November. The goalkeeper, who currently plays his football at Deportivo La Coruna, says the Israeli team favour England because they admire the Premier League. "All the Israeli players love the England team, England players and the Premier League," he told the Sunday Mirror.

Qualify

"We are going to do everything we can to help them. "It's quite strange that they are relying on a country such as Israel to help them qualify." Awat is shocked that England have not qualified easily from the Euro 2008 qualifying group. "I can't quite believe England are in this situation to be honest, with the quality they have," he added. "I thought they would win the group very easily, with Russia and Croatia fighting it out for second. "We know we have to beat Russia first and foremost for ourselves and for our fans, but we also know a win could help England qualify and that would be great."
