Nigel Worthington was thrilled at watching his Northern Ireland side come from a goal down to claim a 1-1 draw in Sweden.

Although Northern Ireland realistically needed a win in Stockholm to maintain their hopes of qualifying for Euro 2008, Worthing was full of praise for his side.

Olof Mellberg's 15th minute opener looked like giving the Swedes the points before Kyle Lafferty's superb 72nd strike snatched a share of the spoils.

"To come into Sweden's back garden and perform like that and take the game to them, the players were outstanding," he told the BBC.

"It's a barometer of what we can do and need to do. I was delighted with the way we played."

Worthington was full of praise for goalscorer Lafferty, but felt everyone of his starting XI was outstanding.

"He, along with 10 others, was outstanding," he continued.

"He worked very, very hard for the team. He was very neat and tidy for most of the game.

"To score a goal like that against Sweden, in Sweden is great for him."
