Striker adds to Staunton's woes

Stephen Elliott has become the latest player to withdraw from the Republic of Ireland squad for their forthcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers. The Wolves striker picked up a hamstring injury in training and he has been ruled out of Saturday's clash with Germany and the game against Cyprus four days later. Elliott has returned to Molineux for treatment on the injury and Mick McCarthy will be hoping the injury is not too serious. Ireland boss Steve Staunton is sweating on the fitness of trio John O'Shea, Andy Reid and Darren Potter ahead of the qualifier against Germany. O'Shea is struggling with a dead leg, while Reid has not been able to take part in full training because of an ankle problem. Wolves midfielder Potter is also a doubt after picking up a knock in training.
