France striker Louis Saha is to miss the Euro 2008 qualifiers against Faroe Islands and Lithuania.
Saha was not able to play any part in Manchester United's 4-0 victory over Wigan on Sunday after injury his knee during the warm-up.
He had been expected to be fit after a week's rest, but the French Federation has confirmed his withdrawal from Raymond Domenech's squad.
Saha has been plagued by injuries since joining United and had not started a club game for seven months before last Tuesday's UEFA Champions League victory over Roma.
The striker, who left France's training camp in Clairefontaine on Tuesday, had been unlikely to start against Faroe Islands or Lithuania.
Domenech has elected not to call up a replacement, and will now choose between Thierry Henry, Nicolas Anelka, Sidney Govou and Karim Benzema for who should start up front.
France are third in Group B, a point behind Italy and two behind leaders Scotland.
