Lilian Thuram concedes France's 1-0 defeat to Scotland at Parc des Princes was 'a disaster'.
France's bid to avenge last October's 1-0 loss at Hampden Park was scuppered by James McFadden's long-range winner in the second half.
The result allowed Scotland to move top of Euro 2008 qualifying Group B, while France have slipped to third after Italy's win in Ukraine.
Thuram lamented the defeat to the Scots and admits Les Bleus have an uphill struggle to qualify for next summer's tournament in Austria and Switzerland.
"Our first-half display was not the one of a team desperate to win," Thuram told reporters.
"It is a disaster, a very bad result.
"Whether we like it or not, it will be complicated to qualify."
France next face Faroe Islands away and Lithuania at home before concluding the qualifying campaign in November with a trip to Ukraine.
Coach Raymond Domenech said: "The last three matches will be decisive."
