Northern Ireland defender Chris Baird has conceded the team were guilty of being overconfident against Latvia.

Nigel Worthington's troops saw their Euro 2008 qualifying hopes hit by a 1-0 defeat to Latvia last weekend.

Stand-in skipper Baird scored an unfortunate own goal to hand victory to Latvia and the Fulham stopper wants to move on from the defeat.

"It was a mistake [the own goal]," Baird told Sky Sports News. "I move on from it and if it happens again it happens again, it is just one of these things in football.

"I think we were overconfident maybe.

"It is one of those things that we have to move on from. We lost the game.

"There is another game on Wednesday night and we have to get the three points."

Baird has called on the Northern Ireland fans not to lose hope following the defeat to Latvia and says all the squad remain confident they can still qualify for next summer's finals.

"Keep the faith because we still have got the faith we can qualify and if we can do that I think everyone will be happy," concluded Baird.
