Adrian Mutu scored twice as Romania strengthened their position at the top of Group G with a 3-1 victory in Belarus.
The former Chelsea forward opened the scoring after 16 minutes only for Maxim Romashchenko to stun the visitors with the equaliser four minutes later.
But Romania continued to enjoy the better of the game and went back into the lead through Nicolae Dica three minutes before the interval.
And Mutu made sure of the victory which moves Romania a step closer to a place in the finals in Austria and Switzerland next summer.
Wesley Sneijder and Ruud van Nistelrooy scored either side of the break to earn Holland a 2-0 home win over Bulgaria.
The Real Madrid pair made the difference in a one-sided Group G match with the visitors content to play on the counter-attack.
The Dutch are now second in the group with 17 points from seven matches, three points behind Romania, who have played eight matches.
Slovenia came on top in the battle of the Group G strugglers with a 3-0 victory over whipping-boys Luxembourg.
Klemen Lavric opened the scoring after just seven minutes before Milivoje Novakovic added a second before the interval.
And Lavric's second two minutes after the interval sealed the victory for the visitors.
