Germany have lost Philipp Lahm to injury ahead of Saturday's Euro 2008 qualifier with Wales at the Millennium Stadium.
The 23-year-old Bayern Munich star will miss the crucial match - which is being shown live on Sky Sports 1 - after sustaining ligament damage to his left knee.
He picked up the injury during training with the national squad in Cologne on Thursday and a subsequent MRI scan revealed the full extent of the damage.
His absence is a major blow to Germany's coach Joachim Low after he put in an impressive performance replacing Torsten Frings in a holding midfield role against England two weeks ago.
Lahm will now return to his club - where he plays in defence - for further treatment, but is already ruled out of Germany's friendly with Romania on 12th September.
He is also doubtful for unbeaten Bayern's important league match at home to Schalke on 15th September.
