Wembley is set to host the European Cup final for a record seventh time this Saturday when Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich met at the famous stadium.
Ahead of kick-off this weekend, Sky Sports looks back at the previous prestigious games at both the old and new home of English football.
1963: AC Milan 2 Benfica 1
The 1963 win over Benfica would be the first of many memorable European nights for the Rossoneri as Wembley staged the emergence of Milan as a dominant force in the competition. Despite Benfica taking the lead on 18 minutes, Milan's Jose Altafini scored a brace to overturn Eusebio's opener, while teenage sensation Gianni Rivera, who had been a revelation throughout the competition, continued his impressive form until the final.
1968: Manchester United 4 Benfica 1 (after extra time)
The 1968 final marked another Wembley final defeat for Benfica but the game will be remembered for Manchester United's first European success. Goals from George Best, Brian Kidd and a double by Bobby Charlton fulfilled a dream for the club's legendary manager Sir Matt Busby, who had seen his team decimated by the Munich disaster a decade earlier.
1971: Ajax 2 Panathinaikos 0
A one-sided affair saw Ajax's 'Total Football' style comfortably overcome Panathinaikos thanks to goals from Dick van Dijk and Arie Haan. Coached by the great Rinus Michels, a 24-year-old by the name of Johan Cruyff ran the show from start to finish, lighting up the Wembley crowd. This would be the first of three back-to-back European Cup victories for Ajax.
1978: Liverpool 1 FC Brugge 0
Arriving as defending European champions, Wembley descended into a sea of red as the Liverpool faithful came in their droves to witness another memorable European night. Liverpool used home advantage to make it two in a row as they overcame a plucky Brugge side. Not by any means a classic, the game's only goal was scored by Kop legend Kenny Dalglish.
1992: Barcelona 1 Sampdoria 0 (after extra time)
Johan Cruyff's 'Dream Team' would be the last side to win the original European Cup before its rebranding as the UEFA Champions League. Barcelona won the game thanks to a Ronald Koeman free-kick after extra time, which marked their first triumph in the competition against Sampdoria.
2011: Barcelona 3 Manchester United 1
A repeat of the 2009 final, Pep Guardiola's all-conquering Barcelona side took apart Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United in one of the most one-sided affairs in recent memory. Wayne Rooney cancelled out Pedro's opener to make it level at half time but that was about as good as got for United. Man of the match Lionel Messi made it two within the hour with a 20-yard drive and David Villa sealed the victory to claim Barcelona's fourth European triumph.
