Thomas Vermaelen believes Arsenal can take a lot of confidence after recording back-to-back UEFA Champions League wins following a 3-1 home success over Olympiakos.
Arsenal had started the group phase with a 2-1 victory away to Montpellier a fortnight ago and followed that up with a battling triumph over Olympiakos.
The Gunners are now in a strong position to reach the last 16 and skipper Vermaelen wants the run to continue going into the double-header with Schalke.
"I think it gives us a lot of confidence, six out of six [points] and that's really important," Vermaelen told Sky Sports.
"The most important thing is to win your home games in the Champions League. We also won away at Montpellier and we want to keep that going."
Gervinho opened the scoring for Arsenal and then laid on the chance for Lukas Podolski to restore the lead early in the second half, with the Ivorian's performance praised by Vermaelen.
The centre-half added: "He's doing great. For me he had a great pre-season as well.
"In the matches he is scoring a lot of goals. He's quick and he's quite busy, so I'm happy for him."
