Manchester City rescued a point against Borussia Dortmund as Mario Balotelli scored a last-minute penalty, whilst Arsenal eased to a 3-1 win over Olympiakos.
City well feel a huge sense of relief at taking a point from their game, with Joe Hart their man of the match after pulling off a string of fine saves.
Dortmund had taken the lead through Marco Reus as he capitalised on a loose pass from substitute Jack Rodwell before firing past Hart - who was superb all evening.
But City claimed a point with a hotly disputed penalty as Neven Subotic was adjudged to have handled Sergio Aguero's shot. Balotelli stepped up and slotted it home in archetypal style to save Roberto Mancini's side.
Real Madrid remain clear at the top of City's group (D) as they claimed a 4-1 win at
Ajax.
Cristiano Ronaldo fired home from close range just before half-time after Karim Benzema's effort was blocked.
Benzema executed a brilliant over-head kick to double the lead just after the break, but Ajax pulled one back just minutes later as Niklas Moisander scored.
But Real restored their two-goal advantage with Ronaldo scoring his second before he then completed his treble - his second successive hat-trick - ten minutes from time to make sure Madrid maintained their 100 per cent record.
Arsenal are another side with a perfect record and they sit on top of Group B after their 3-1 victory over
Olympiakos at the Emirates.
Gervinho fired Arsenal ahead from the edge of the box on 42 minutes, but their lead lasted just a matter of minutes as Konstantinos Mitroglou brilliantly headed home Leandro Greco's cross.
Arsene Wenger's men went ahead just before the hour as Olympiakos failed to clear and Lukas Podolski fired home underneath Balazs Megyeri.
Aaron Ramsey then dinked home the third in injury-time to seal the win.
Arsenal are now two points clear, as
Schalke were held to a 2-2 draw at home by 10-man
Montpellier.
The French champions went ahead early on with Karim Ait-Fana curling home wonderfully past Lars Unnerstall.
Schalke battled back and were level before half-time after starlet Julian Draxler fired home after being sent clear by Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
Huntelaar then put them ahead from the penalty spot just minutes into the second half after Garry Bocaly was sent off for bringing down Draxler after an excellent run.
But despite their numerical advantage Schalke could not hang on as they allowed Souleymane Camara to fire home in the final minute.
Elsewhere,
Porto are top of Group A with a perfect record from their two games after claiming a 1-0 win over
Paris St Germain.
The only goal at the Estadio do Dragao came with seven minutes remaining as Colombian James Rodriguez curled home to win it for the Portuguese giants.
Oleg Blokhin marked his first game in charge of
Dynamo Kiev with a 2-0 win over
Dinamo Zagreb.
Oleg Gusev headed Dynamo ahead after just three minutes and their lead was doubled on the half-hour as Josip Pivaric put past his own keeper.
Malaga top Group B after a comfortable 3-0 win over
Anderlecht in Brussels.
The Spanish side went ahead on the stroke of half-time when Eliseu volleyed home wonderfully from 20 yards.
Joaquin fired home from the penalty spot on the hour to double their lead before Eliseu added his second and sealed the win on 64 minutes.
Earlier on Tuesday, a late own goal gave
AC Milan a 3-2 win at
Zenit St Petersburg, who had come from two goals behind in Russia.
Urby Emanuelson's deflected free-kick put Milan ahead on 13 minutes before Stephan El Shaarawy's brilliant individual effort just moments later doubled their lead.
Zenit battled back with record-signing Hulk scoring on the stroke of half-time and just after the interval Roman Shirokov levelled - but Milan secured the win as Tomas Hubocan put through his own net, meaning the Russians remain pointless.
