Patrice Evra and Robin van Persie have hailed Wayne Rooney's performance in Manchester United's UEFA Champions League victory over CFR Cluj.
The England international provided the ammunition for Van Persie as he bagged a brace in a come-from-behind success for Sir Alex Ferguson's side.
Rooney was moved from a central striking berth to a deep-lying role in Romania and excelled in a playmaking post.
It has not been the easiest of openings to the season for Rooney, having been dropped to the bench and laid low by a nasty leg injury, but he was instrumental as United picked up three important points in Europe on Tuesday.
Evra has acknowledged as much, with the French full-back saying: "People criticise really easily.
"They were talking about Robin so much I thought we've just got one striker.
"Robin's an amazing player and that's good but people mustn't forget what Wayne Rooney has done for this club.
"He's a big, massive player and looked really sharp last night.
"When someone new comes in, everyone is excited and forgets the old things. But Wazza will show it to everyone."
Van Persie has also paid tribute to Rooney and his importance to the Manchester United side.
He said: "Rooney played very well.
"He gave me two excellent assists. It is really good that he is back."
