Lively encounter ends in draw in Moscow

CSKA Moscow and Turkish champions Fenerbahce shared the spoils in the first-ever meeting between these two teams. Two quick-fire goals early in the second half looked to have given the Russian side all three points following an entertaining encounter in Moscow. But a late long-distance strike by Deivid gave the Turkish team a point and kept them at the top of the Group G table, with four points from their first two games. Despite losing their first Champions League game and poor domestic form, CSKA put in a spirited performance, dominating early possession and creating a hat-full of chances.

Pressure

But Fenerbahce withstood tremendous pressure to take a 1-0 half-time lead after their captain de Alex put the visitors ahead on eight minutes against the run of play. A mistake by CSKA defender Alexei Berezoutski spooned up the ball for the Brazilian to simply head in past stranded keeper Veniamin Mandrykin. CSKA then dominated and created a string of chances, with the best opportunity falling to striker Joao Jo who blasted his shot into the side-netting on 33 minutes after good work by Milos Krasic.
Equaliser
The Russians finally got the equaliser their good play deserved on 49 minutes when Krasic latched onto a horrendous back-pass from Fenerbahce's Edu to take the ball around keeper Demirel. Edu's night then got even worse two minutes later when he brought down Vagner Love, who had turned him in the box, to give away both a penalty and earn himself a yellow card. Love got up to convert the spot-kick on 53 minutes, sending the keeper the wrong way when drilling into the bottom left-hand corner. Both teams then had chances in this lively encounter, with Fenerbahce increasingly coming back into the game. They got the equaliser their play deserved when Deivid - whose strike took all three points for Fenerbahce against Internazionale - scored on 85 minutes when his long-range drive crept in under Mandrykin, who should have done better.
