Ajax, FC Twente and PSV Eindhoven were all among the goals as the Eredivisie title hopefuls enjoyed wins in the third round of the Dutch Cup.

Jan Vertonghen and Derk Boerrigter scored a brace apiece as Ajax enjoyed a topsy-turvy 4-2 win away to top-flight rivals Roda JC Kerkrade.

Mitchell Donald gave Roda a third minute lead, but Vertonghen equalised within a minute before Boerrigter put Ajax ahead on 63 minutes.

Roda were level just two minutes later through Mads Junker, but goals on 72 minutes from Boerrigter and Vertonghen two minutes from time sent Ajax through.

Twente also advanced to the next stage, but survived a scare against lower league opposition after a 4-3 home triumph over Genemuiden.

Leroy Fer had given Twente a fourth minute lead, but the visitors levelled and took the lead on 56 minutes before Nacer Chadli drew the hosts level.

Emir Bajrami scored twice in the space of a minute to put Twente 4-2 ahead before Genemuiden scored an 87th minute consolation.

PSV also faced lower league opposition and had to wait until the second half to make their class count in a 3-0 success over Lisse.

Stanislav Manolev eventually made the breakthrough on 57 minutes before goals from Zakaria Labyad and Dries Mertens eased PSV into the next round.

In the second all-Eredivisie affair of the evening, Vitesse Arnhem secured a 2-1 home victory over ADO Den Haag.

Marcus Pedersen put Vitesse ahead on five minutes before Tjaronn Chery drew Den Haag level on 19 minutes.

Wilfried Bony scored the winner for Vitesse midway through the second half before the visitors' Gabor Horvath was dismissed late on.

Glynor Plet scored a hat-trick as Heracles Almelo enjoyed a 4-0 home win over Berkum, while Sparta Rotterdam beat Sparta Nijkerk by the same scoreline.

De Graafschap had to come from behind to win 5-1 away to De Treffers, with three goals in the space of seven first-half minutes from Michael de Leeuw, Rydell Poepon and Jussi Kujala doing the damage.
