FC Utrecht are in pole position for a spot next season's Europa League with a 2-0 win over Roda JC in the first-leg of their play-off clash.

Utrecht got off to a flying start when Tim Corneliss fired home from the edge of the box after just two minutes.

The visitors doubled their advantage four minutes before the break when Dries Mertens converted Ricky Van Wolfswinkel's cross.

In the relegation play-offs Go Ahead Eagles earned a narrow 1-0 lead in their first-leg encounter with top-flight outfit Willem II.

Koen van der Biezen popped up with the winner in the final minute to give Eagles a crucial lead to take into the second leg at Willem II.

In the other play-off Sparta Rotterdam earned a goalless draw at Excelsior to leave them well-placed for the return game at home.
