Utrecht and Roda to clash in play-offs

Utrecht and Roda JC Kerkrade will meet in a Europa League play-off, while Sparta Rotterdam and Willem II Tilburg both won in their relegation play-offs. In the race to secure European football next season, Utrecht won 2-0 away to Groningen to clinch a 5-1 aggregate success. Ricky van Wolfswinkel opened the scoring on 38 minutes and the visitors were celebrating again when Nana Asara grabbed the second nine minutes from time. Roda made it through to the play-off final after a dramatic 2-1 win at Heracles Almelo sealed a 3-2 win on aggregate. Heracles appeared to be heading for a showdown with Utrecht after Darl Douglas broke the deadlock in the second leg on 62 minutes. However, Roda were gifted an equaliser through Antoine van der Linden's own goal 10 minutes from the end before Boldizsar Bodor pounced for the winner two minutes into stoppage-time. Sparta Rotterdam hit back from a first-leg deficit to secure a place in the Eredivisie's promotion/relegation play-off finals with a 2-0 defeat of Helmond Sport. Helmond led 2-1 from the first match, but goals from Rydell Poepon and Charles Dissels, the latter coming in the final minute, saw Sparta to victory and moved them a step closer to remaining in the Eredivisie. They will now meet city rivals Excelsior for a place in the top flight after they beat FC Zwolle 4-3 and 5-3 on aggregate. Guyon Fernandez netted twice for the home side with Leendert van Steensel and Norichio Nieveld also on target. A Dennis van der Wal goal and a brace for Arne Slot was not enough for Zwolle. The other final will be between Go Ahead Eagles and Willem II, who played among the elite in the recently-completed season. Mark De Vries' goal for Cambuur Leeuwarden was not enough to see them overturn a 2-0 first-leg defeat to the Eagles while Willem II preserved their one-goal advantage from the opening game against FC Eindhoven with a 1-1 draw. Gerson Sheotahul put Willem II ahead, but Ruud van der Rijt levelled on the day with 18 minutes to go.
