Excelsior have swooped to sign Jos van Nieuwstadt from Willem II.
Van Nieuwstadt had been on the Tilburg club's books for the last eight seasons, but found opportunities limited over the last 12 months.
The defender was informed his deal would not be extended and this allowed Excelsior to step in and sign him on a Bosman free transfer.
Van Nieuwstadt has been handed a one-year deal with an option to extend by a further 12 months.
Sparta, meanwhile, have handed a new deal to Rachid Bouaouzan.
The 22-year-old, who made his debut in 2004, has been rewarded with a deal which runs until 2008.
