PEC Zwolle's 100 per cent winning start to the Eredivisie season came to an end after they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to FC Utrecht, while Ajax could only produce a draw at FC Groningen.

The surprise early league leaders had won their opening four matches to sit top of the standings, but fell behind on Sunday to Willem Janssen's 50th-minute opener.

However, Stefan Nijland, a substitute just before the hour mark, levelled proceedings in the 75th minute to earn PEC a hard-earned point.

Defending champions Ajax's stuttering start to the campaign continued after playing out a 1-1 draw at FC Groningen.

Lasse Schone gave Frank de Boer's men an 18th-minute lead but second-half substitute Genero Zeefuik ensured the points would be shared to leave Ajax with just two wins from their first five matches.

Feyenoord scored two goals in either half to hammer 10-man Roda JC 4-0.

Ruud Vormer opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark from the penalty spot and Graziano Pelle doubled Feyenoord's lead just before half-time, while Miguel Nelom (68) and John Goossens (85) added the gloss to the win either side of Henk Dijkhuizen's dismissal in the 82nd minute.

Elsewhere, substitute Jonathan Reis struck three minutes from time to earn Vitesse a 1-1 draw at AZ, who had taken the lead in the 42nd minute through Mattias Johansson.
