Feyenoord had two men sent off as they suffered a second successive defeat to start the new Eredivisie season.

Having lost 2-1 to PEC Zwolle last week, Ronald Koeman's side were thumped 4-1 by FC Twente at De Kuip today.

The hosts actually took the lead through Graziano Pelle's powerful header but Kyle Ebecilio levelled before half-time and the match turned on the dismissal of Feyenoord debutant Jordy van Deelen in the 57th minute.

Van Deelen was the last defender when he brought down Shadrach Eghan, allowing Dusan Tadic to put Twente ahead from the spot.

Worse was to follow as Stefan de Vrij collected a second yellow card. Tadic netted his second penalty after Joris Mathijsen fouled Dico Koppers and Luc Castaignos added a fourth for the visitors.

Reigning champions Ajax were also left rueing a red card as they lost 3-2 to AZ Alkmaar.

Ajax twice led, through Christian Eriksen's free-kick and Siem de Jong's header, with AZ's Roy Beerens scoring on the stroke of half-time from a corner.

But when Ricardo van Rhijn was adjudged to have fouled Nick Viergever in the penalty area, the defender was sent off and Aron Johansson scored from 12 yards.

Viktor Elm fired AZ's winner, set up by substitute Maarten Martens, and Ajax missed several chances to equalise.

Sander Duits' brace earned RKC Waalwijk a 4-2 win against Vitesse Arnhem.

Robert Braber and Romeo Castelen gave RKC a 2-1 half-time lead after Kelvin Leerdam had opened the scoring for Vitesse, who drew level early in the second half through Valeri Kazaishvili.

But Duits nudged the hosts ahead with a 74th-minute penalty and scored again two minutes later.

FC Groningen saw off FC Utrecht 2-0 thanks to Nick van der Velden's early penalty and Richairo Zivkovic's second-half clincher.
