Young forward joins Dutch club on free transfer

Vitesse have completed the signing of Brazilian forward Jonathan Reis on a free transfer, the Eredivisie club has confirmed. Reis has put pen to paper on a contract at the GelreDome until the end of the season. The 22-year-old was a free agent having left former club PSV Eindhoven, where he came through the youth ranks, in the summer. It is thought PSV were only willing to offer him a one-year extension to his expiring deal due to fitness problems but Reis did not want to settle for anything less than a long-term contract. The forward picked up a serious knee injury last December and has not featured since, but Vitesse are hopeful of him regaining match fitness in the near future. The Arnhem club will be glad to have bolstered their attacking resources, with first-choice striker Wilfried Bony expected to be unavailable early next year as he will be representing the Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations.
