Vitesse Arnhem made the perfect start to the Eredivisie season when battling to a 2-1 win at Sparta Rotterdam.
Vitesse are looking to build for the future having gone some way to easing their financial woes and their first effort of the campaign bodes well.
The visitors made a flying start, as summer signing Danko Lazovic popped up to score after only two minutes.
A penalty handed them the chance to double their lead and Ruud Knol made no mistake from the spot on 32 minutes.
Sparta battled hard and Danny Schenkel set up a grandstand finish when scoring 16 minutes from time, but they could not grab a late leveller.
