Koeman looks to Schalke star

Feyenoord have reportedly targeted Schalke midfielder Simon Cziommer.

Feyenoord have reportedly targeted Schalke midfielder Simon Cziommer to replace the heavily injured Nicky Hofs.

Coach Erwin Koeman has been deprived of his young star after he snapped a cruciate ligament in a pre-season friendly, and is now keen to bring in reinforcements.

Koeman has reputedly identified Cziommer as a potential replacement for the 22-year-old after he impressed in Dutch football with Twente last season.

The 24-year-old spent 18 months with the side after failing to break into the first-team reckoning with Schalke, and could now be set to return to De Eredivisie.

Feyenoord will be looking to provide a more sustained challenge to PSV Eindhoven this season, and capturing a replacement midfielder could prove key to Koeman's hopes.
