VITESSE ARNHEM have been rocked by a knee injury to key striker Matthew Amoah.

The Ghanaian picked up the injury in the weekend draw with RBC Roosendaal and was forced off in the second half after earlier opening the scoring for Vitesse.

Amoah underwent an operation on Wednesday to remedy the problem and had a piece of cartilage removed from his knee.

The 22-year-old will now be out of action for at least two months - longer than Vitesse initially feared they would be without the African.

His absence will be a major blow for Vitesse coach Edward Sturing as Amoah had netted twice in four appearances this term and he will leave the club short of firepower.

Amoah's injury leaves Sturing desperately short of options for this weekend's clash against Roda JC Kerkrade as Gert Claessens is suspended and the Vitesse chief has just 15 first-team players at his disposal.
