Sebastian Sansoni has accepted his suspension from Vitesse Arnhem, but he is facing a heftier punishment from the KNVB.
The French defender has been hit with a two-game ban after being caught making a biting movement towards NEC Nijmegen's Roy Beerens.
"I can understand why the club have chosen to punish me," said the 29-year-old. "Although it was never my intention to hurt Beerens, it does look offensive.
"I should never have done it, although my intention was only to scare him."
Sansoni is set for a longer spell on the sidelines as the Dutch FA have recommended a five-game ban. The player has not yet commented on whether he will accept the sanction.
