NEC Nijmegen have been dealt a real blow with the news that Edgar Barreto is unlikely to play again this season.
The 19-year-old arrived at NEC in the winter transfer window from Cerro Porteno with a lofty reputation and was expected to play a major part before the end of the season.
However, the Paraguayan picked up a knee injury in training and scans have revealed damage to a ligament in his knee.
NEC have been told he could be rushed back to action in two months, but have been advised it would be better to let him recover properly before coming back for pre-season training.
A further blow to coach Johan Neeskens is that another of his winter signings, Polish talent Andrzej Niedzielan, has picked up an injury.
Niedzielan (pictured) has damaged a groin, but is only expected to be sidelined for a week.
