Former Rangers striker Michael Mols has signed for old club Utrecht, after opting to continue his career.

Mols has been without a club since leaving Ibrox in the summer and he rejected offers from Cologne, NEC Nijmegen and Al-Rayyan in Qatar.

The 33-year-old had suggested that he would retire, rather than return to De Eredivisie, but he has now had a change of heart.

Utrecht had been keen on Mols earlier in the campaign but the forward was wary of returning to the club where he enjoyed a fruitful spell.

In three seasons with Utrecht, Mols netted 49 goals in De Eredivisie and he was fearful he would be unable to repeat that success.

But he has been tempted back, after failing to receive any other suitable offers, and he admits it was a quick decision once he learned Utrecht had revived their interest.

"I have always said that I would return here," Mols told the club's official website. "Both parties had an interest so it was solved rapidly."

The experienced front man has penned a contract to keep him with Utrecht until the summer of 2006, although they can sever the partnership at the end of this season.
