RKC Waalwijk are set to miss out on signing Regillio Vrede due to concerns over the defender's fitness.

The 30-year-old only joined Groningen in the summer but RKC attempted to prise him away by lodging a bid late last month.

However, Groningen feel the deal is a non-starter due to the player being sidelined with an injury.

"This seems impossible right now," Groningen technical manager Henk Veldmate told Dagblad van het Noorden.

"Vrede is working on the rehabilitation of his abdominal wall injury, that's the important thing now."

Ignacio Tuhuteru has also been linked with a move away from Groningen but the club are not prepared to sell despite him only being on the fringes of the first team.
