Heerenveen are hoping Ugur Yildirim can overcome jumper's knee to play regularly this season.

The striker has been diagnosed with the condition but has been given the signal to continue playing.

The Heerenveen medical staff will assess the 23-year-old's condition on a consistent basis but, for now, have decided against taking any action.

"Our suspicions were confirmed," commented a Heerenveen physiotherapist after Yildirim had an MRI scan.

"Now the doctors have to determine what will happen but, provisionally, there are, in principle, no restrictions for Ugur."

Yildirim joined Heerenveen last summer from Go Ahead Eagles and responded to the move by scoring seven goals.

Meanwhile, Heerenveen have appointed Petter Hansson as the team's new captain following the departure of Arek Radomski to Austria Vienna.
