Swede set to quit Strasbourg

Pontus Farnerud is ready to quit Strasbourg at the end of the season.

Pontus Farnerud is ready to quit Strasbourg at the end of the season, with a move to Feyenoord set to be revived.

Feyenoord tried to sign the Sweden international during the January transfer window and were disappointed not to secure a deal.

With Strasbourg looking doomed to relegation from Ligue One, Farnerud is not keen on playing outside the top flight.

That is likely to pave the way for Feyenoord to move back in for the midfielder, with Farnerud open to a switch to De Kuip.

"I can certainly consider it, if there is an interesting offer," Farnerud told Sportbladet regarding a move.

"Everything indicates that I will leave the club.

"I still have some contact with them (Feyenoord), plus some other clubs."

Farnerud's agent Claes Elefalk conceded that Strasbourg would struggle to keep hold of the Swede due to the financial impact of relegation.

Elefalk said: "Pontus is the best paid player at Strasbourg and clubs who get relegated might not have the finances to keep some players."
