Feyenoord midfielder Alfred Schreuder faces a further six weeks out of action with an Achilles injury.

Schreuder has already been missing for a fortnight with the problem but now requires an operation on the injury.

The Rotterdam club had been hoping the 32-year-old's absence from the team would only be brief but are now resigned to losing Schreuder until November at the earliest.

The medical staff at De Kuip had been keen to avoid surgery but now concede it is the only course of action for Schreuder.

"All the other therapies did not give a satisfactory result to let Schreuder make his comeback," said club doctor Robbart van Linschoten.

"So, after long discussions, we decided to let him undergo surgery."
