Feyenoord have dropped their interest in Club Brugge star Timmy Simons due to financial concerns.

Simons had long been a target for the De Kuip outfit, even after the departure of previous boss Ruud Gullit.

However the Eredivisie outfit have been put off by both the club and player's demands, and have decided to focus on other targets.

Earlier this week Simons' agent had voiced his hope that a deal could be pushed through in the near future, although Feyenoord technical director Mark Wotte now insists it is dead in the water.

"Looking at the age of the player we don't want to pay such a high transfer fee," said Wotte.

"Furthermore the wage demands of Simons doesn't fit in the current system, we will now look to our alternatives."
