Groningen are looking into the possibility of signing Feyenoord forward Johan Elmander.

Elmander has failed to make the expected impact at De Kuip following his arrival in 2000, with the club informing him last week that he will allowed to move on in the summer.

Despite not making the grade in Rotterdam, Elmander is still highly rated and is certain to have offers in the summer.

Groningen are sure to be one interested party, with technical manager Henk Veldmate confirming an offer will be made.

"It won't be easy to get him, but we will talk with him," Veldmate told Dagblad van het Noorden.

Elmander is currently on loan at NAC Breda and they are expected to make a bid for his services in the summer.

Meanwhile, Regillio Vrede has been banished from Groningen's first team plans for an unspecified period following his weekend troubles.

The 30-year-old defender got involved in a spat with team-mate Paul Matthijs over a free kick and the pair were involved in a fight at half time.

Coach Ron Jans sent the two home from the game at half time, due to seriousness of the incident, and on Monday Vrede had a meeting with Veldmate and general director Hans Nijland.

"In a day or two, the club will come out with some information," Vrede told the club's website. "Provisionally I'm suspended.

"We are looking for a definitive solution. So first we have to wait for what comes out of the talks with my agent."

The club have not yet made a decision concerning Matthijs.
