Pinas signs with Groningen

FORMER Newcastle United man Brian Pinas has signed a deal with Groningen and will join them at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old winger has struggled to make an impression at Feyenoord, and is currently in the middle of a loan deal at Excelsior.

Pinas, though, is looking further ahead than this season, having signed a three-year contract with Groningen.

He said to feyenoord.nl: "FC Groningen is a beautiful team with fantastic fans.

"Furthermore they really wanted me. That is very important for me.

"I have a good feeling about this."

Pinas is reportedly hedging his bets, however, as it is being suggested that he has inserted a clause in his deal that states he can decide against joining the club if they fail to avoid the drop.

Groningen are currently third-bottom, and Pinas will certainly be casting anxious glances at their results over the remaining months of the season.
