ILLNESS and injuries are hindering Feyenoord`s preparations for Thursday`s Uefa Cup semi-final with Internazionale.

The Rotterdam outfit have a flu virus sweeping through De Kuip, with Kees van Wonderen (pictured), Glenn Loovens and Civard Sprockel all laid low.

The trio missed the weekend draw with RKC Waalwijk, while Patrick Paauwe is doubtful with an ankle problem and Eby Smolarek is definitely out with a knee complaint.

Feyenoord coach Bert van Marwijk is anxiously looking at the situation, commenting: "So many of our players are sick because of the flu, I just hope this infection doesn't spread itself into the rest of the squad."

When asked about Paauwe, van Marwijk added: "Patrick went completely over on his ankle. He couldn't continue to play.  We will have to wait and see with him."

Smolarek will miss at least the next fortnight, and said: "I turned my knee when I clashed with the Sparta keeper. I'll have to give it a lot of rest for the next couple of weeks."
